Where to sleep in Marrakech
Marrakech offers several options to its guests. There are popular world-chain hotels, from the basic ones to the most luxurious ones. There are beautiful and extremely luxurious hotels, such as La Mamounia. And then, there is the riad.
Riad is a type of traditional Moroccan house with an interior courtyard, where all the rooms are in a typical Moroccan style. In this case, as well, there are more affordable ones and more expensive ones.
Moreover, the biggest part of the more “international style” hotels are in the Ville Nouvelle – the new city – where there is plenty of room for their giant buildings and gardens. On the other side, riads are usually inside the Medina as they are old private houses, and they tend to be smaller and more private.
However, as the riads are inside the Medina, you might need to walk in the middle of the alleys that maybe seem to lead nowhere. Don’t be afraid, you’ll reach it soon! Moreover, when arriving at the airport, the riad usually provides the guests with a shuttle service. So when you arrive at the riad for the first time, they will be waiting for you on the main road where the car stops and then drive you to the entrance. So no worries!
Our experience at Riad Al Moussika Hotel
- ROOM 8/10
- LOCATION 9/10
- PRICE/QUALITY RATIO 8/10
For our stay in Marrakech, we made the decision to experience the real Moroccan style, so we opted for Riad Al Moussika in the Medina. And, to be honest, it was a great idea.
The building was beautiful, with cute details and decorations all over: from the common areas to the private bedrooms, all the spaces where Instagrammable!
The staff was very professional and welcoming, and willing to help for any necessities.
The room itself was spacious and comfortable, a bit poorly lit, and the shower was wooow! The only downside was the absence of a welcome kit in the bathroom – with a shower cap, cotton swabs, etc.
The breakfast was rich and good; however, it was served in the courtyard, and this area was very cold, despite the several heaters (we visited Marrakech during wintertime).
Moreover, inside the riad is Pepe Nero, a fine dining restaurant that unfortunately we hadn’t had the chance to try because we wanted to taste places outside the hotel, but the reviews were excellent!
In conclusion, despite some small negative issues, I would recommend this riad for the general pleasant stay and also for the position – only 500 meters from Jama El f’na!
