Marrakech will delight your palate with local and international recipes and welcome you to beautiful typical riads. These are the places we chose to eat & sleep in Marrakech.
Where to eat in Marrakech
Marrakech is a popular destination; so, especially during high season, you should reserve your table: for dinner is absolutely needed, for lunch it might be needed in case you are more than 2 people.
Lunch
Nomad
- FOOD 7/10
- LOCATION 8/10
- RESERVATION NEEDED no
Nomad is currently a very fashionable restaurant among tourists and wealthy local people. Furnished with traditional Moroccan decorations, Nomad has a great terrace overlooking Rahba Lakdima, which makes it the perfect place for lunch.
Le Jardin
- FOOD 7/10
- LOCATION 8/10
- RESERVATION NEEDED yes
Le Jardin is a haven of rest in the middle of the Medina, perfect to enjoy a good lunch. Set in an old mansion from the 16th century, it offers both Moroccan and international recipes in a lovely patio full of trees and plants. It’s the ideal refreshment point before heading back to the chaotic alleys of the Medina.
Nid´cigogne
- FOOD 7/10
- LOCATION 7/10
- RESERVATION NEEDED no
Le Nid´Cigogne is a Moroccan café located in the Kasbah, with a nice terrace overlooking the beautiful Moulay el Yazid Mosque. From here, you can also observe the storks resting at the Saadian tombs (from here the name of the café).
Afternoon quick stop
Aqua
- FOOD n.a.
- LOCATION 8/10
- RESERVATION NEEDED no
When walking around in the infamous Jama El f’na, your tour won’t be completed until you visit one of the several cafés with terraces overlooking this place. Le Grand Balcon du Café Glacier is a very popular one, but, as such, it is always very crowded. So we opted for another terrace, Aqua, and I must admit that the view of the square and of the Koutoubia as well was great! You don’t really go to these cafés for good food, you go there to enjoy the show of the square from a privileged point of view. And Aqua did well in this!
Zeitoun Café Kasbah
- FOOD n.a.
- LOCATION 8/10
- RESERVATION NEEDED no
Located in the Kasbah, Zeitoun Café is a nice café right in front of the Moulay el Yazid Mosque. We chose this place for a relaxing break, sipping a mint tea at the nicely-arranged tables outside.
Dinner
Comptoir Darna
- FOOD 7/10
- LOCATION 8/10
- RESERVATION NEEDED absolutely yes
Yes, I cannot deny that for dinner we opted for a very tourist place. This restaurant is recommended in several travel guides as together with good food it also offers a very nice show with Moroccan ladies dancing to the rhythm of live music. And, despite its popularity among tourists – you will hardly find local people here – I enjoyed our dinner here: it was our first one and made us savor some local sounds and flavors in a very well-kept location.
However, one single thing that I truly didn’t like is the lighting of this restaurant. Even when the show hasn’t started yet or has just ended, the lights are always very low, and you hardly see what’s coming in your plate. I’m pretty sure it is just me, but I want to see what I’m eating clearly.
La Mamounia
This world-renowned award-winning hotel doesn’t need any further description, as it has been crowned the Best Hotel in the World 2018 at the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards. This extreme luxe comes with a price. But, if you still want to have a look and enjoy some of its beauty, then come here for an after-dinner drink. They have several bars inside: just choose the one you prefer and relish your cocktail.
