Budapest: Where to Eat, Drink and Sleep

Eat, Drink, Sleep in Budapest, Hungary

It’s time to find out where to eat, drink and sleep in Budapest! So, let’s move on and talk about some off-itinerary topics!

But before talking about food, an honorable mention is needed for the hotel we booked for our stay in Budapest.

Where to sleep in Budapest

Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge

  • ROOM 10/10
  • LOCATION 10/10
  • PRICE/QUALITY RATIO 9/10
  • BOOKING

The position of this hotel on the map makes it all clear. The hotels overlooking Széchenyi István tér are usually quite expensive, but we managed to find a great offer after some good researches online.

If you have the chance to get a room with a view on the bridge, your experience in Budapest will get to a higher level. Ours had a great view of both the square and of the Chain Bridge, which at sunset/night is magical!

Breakfast speaking, we opted to go somewhere outside the hotel to better enjoy the city. Here are our favorite places!

Where to eat in Budapest

The food in Budapest is good, I had never been disappointed by the choices I made. So have a look at some of the places I liked the most!

Yes, this is a tourist place. However, I still really enjoyed our breakfast at New York Café. Its Renaissance-style location will leave you speechless, and the breakfast is very abundant and tasty. Reservation is absolutely needed, the queue can be very long especially during high season.

Founded in 1858, Café Gerbeaud will delight you with pastries, cakes, and croissants. This old-style location is ideal for a good breakfast before heading to Váci utca for an intense shopping session!

We had the chance to spend Easter lunch at Zeller Bistro and it was super nice! The details all around are very well-finished and the food was really good.

This Israeli restaurant is welcoming and cozy especially in the daytime, as the yard has a transparent ceiling that lets in the sunlight. Recipes are typical Israeli and there is a vast choice.

Dinner

Monk’s Bistrot

  • FOOD 7/10
  • LOCATION 7/10
  • RESERVATION NEEDED yes

  • TRIPADVISOR

It seems a little hidden, as it is not located in a principal avenue… But once inside, you will promote Monk’s Bistrot with flying colors! The industrial-style location mixes convivial tables and more private spaces. The kitchen is open right in the middle of the restaurant, still, you will leave without any smell on you. The food is refined and good!

About our last dinner in Budapest, I only have good memories. Better, I have super good memories of the fillet of beef Wellington: it was d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s! Appetizers and desserts were very good as well!

Drinks

Kiosk

We actually visited Kiosk for an aperitivo right before heading to Monk’s Bistrot. However, after dinner, we passed in front of it and realized it would have been great for drinks as well. For friendly and young people, Kiosk is a nice location to enjoy good music, good cocktails, and good food!

Szimpla Kert

You don’t really need my review to choose to go to the infamous Szimpla Kert! Given its popularity, it is today a tourist place. However, it is still good to make a flying visit and enjoy some beer, hanging around, and discovering all the corners full of odd objects, while listening to a live band.

This entire area and around Gozsdu Court are full of bars and cool places to visit. Go for a walk after dinner and choose the one you prefer the most!
